Tony Tiffen Writes: Racing 29th July

28 degrees and rising. God it's hot. Pity the wind didn't rise with it. But despite just a gentle force two, 11 brave souls headed for the water. Boards were at a premium and onlookers were aware of minor scuffles as they fought for the Primo Super Tankers. Lake manager was seen skulking to the water's edge with an F2 Discovery tucked under his arm and Mike george followed suit, asking for the one with footstraps! (what's the guy on? Is he expecting wind or something!). There were murmurs amongst the multitude as these light machines were placed in the water( Was this cheating or what?).
The start gun goes! (all right then the whimpish whistle is blown) And off they go. Dave Skye adopted an interesting manouver by screaming down on the opposition (as much as anyone can scream in a force two) intent on sinking half the fleet before they even got going. An interesting ploy, though I have my doubts of the legality of it!

But soon the fleet strung out in a long, if somewhat sluggish line. Boulter once again took the lead, while " I'll pump this bloody thing into submission" Dave Skye huffed and puffed his way just behind. Tim who unexpectedly actually went the right way for once, slotted into third. Close in pursuit came the Foreman, while Mr Burns drifted along next. At the back of the field Discovery190s were being made by participants. It appears that DISCOVERY'S don't go up wind! Mike George gave up trying to drive the thing upwind, by suddenly departing from the field of battle and sulking in the corner while attempting a bit of freestyle ( for those of you unitiated in this particular passtime, it is as far as I understand it, a process of finding as many ways you can, of falling off a board)

Tony battled on with his Discovery, convinced that there must be somee way of making it go.

Much to the delight of Mark Fowler he failed and Mark was soon snapping at his heels before passing him. Despite being behind Mark I was aware of a grin that the Cheshire cat would have been proud of. It was all too much for Tony whom like Mike earlier retired from the fray and went and played with his BBQ. Mike Minthorpe was in the meantime struck with horror in the middle of the lake as he observed his children(Who had become bored of throwing a ball for Rusty) were now using his car roof as a Trampoline!

Caroline (the salad woman) fought off any chalange that Sandy might make ( this was unlikely due to the fact that she was asleep for most of the race).

The race finished with little changing. John and Dave (the pump) fought tooth and nail all the way round. But Dave was perhaps guilty of overpumping which eventually cost him the race. The rest finished in an orderly Queue behind.

THERE'S JUST NO STOPPING MR BOULTER!!!!!

Tony missed out that me, Chris and Chris did an extra lap to try and wind up Skye-Bloke & John Boulter that they did not do enough laps. It started to work for a while but then too many people started arguing the toss, so we lost out./
